Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Just the mere words “root canal” will often make patients very worried and anxious but it does not need to be that way. The entire procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia so you will be totally numb before the procedure is even attempted.

A root canal is a dental procedure performed to try and save a severely infected or damaged tooth from extraction. When the soft inner tissue of the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma, it can cause intense pain and lead to abscess formation.

During a root canal, the dentist or endodontist removes the infected pulp, thoroughly cleans and disinfects the root canals, and then seals them with a biocompatible material.

Finally, a dental crown is often placed on top of the treated tooth to provide added strength and protection.
